INDEPENDENTS BEAT RIVALS ON HOME FIELD

October 7th - The two teams battled it out in front of a crowd of 5,000 in Davenport. It was a clean game with both teams not giving any ground on defense. Walt Brindley hit a 25yd field goal in the second period to give the Independents the win. In the forth quarter Davenport nearly stole the game when Woodyatt hit Galvin on a short pass over the middle. Galvin appeared to have an open field in front of him until Nips Murphy, (who had the angle on him) came across and planted him into the ground. The Independents gained nearly 3 times as many yards as Davenport but when they threatened the goal the Davenport defense would stiffen. Davenport will play a return game later in the season to see if they can split the series.
