INDEPENDENTS OUTPLAY AND OUTCLASS BEEFY 'STARS'

Completely outplaying the collection of ex and current college stars, Rock Island cruised to an easy victory. Independents out gained the Pros 444 yards to 114. Rock Island rushed for 263 yards while Hammond managed only 29. First downs, Rock Island won 18 to 3.

Stars Waddy Kuehl the former star from Davenport tallied 124 total yards and scored 2 touchdowns. One of the scores was on one a beautiful pass from Arnie Wyman. Kuehl took over for Ursella at quarterback late in the first half and the Independents didn’t miss a beat. Fred Chicken rushed for 74 yards and 1 touchdown on the ground. Arnie Wyman also had a great game as he ran for 63 yards, and threw for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Waddy Keuhl threw for 118 yards and 2 Touchdowns

Dirty Play Hammond quickly realized they were outmatched and resorted to cheap shots, slugs, kicks and just aboue every dirty trick in the book. Rube Ursella suffered a wrenched knee and had to go to see Dr. Watson of the Iowa Hawkeys in Iowa City. Duey Lyle was deliberately kicked in the face and needed seven stitches to close the gap on his upper lip. Ed Healey was “cleated” clear to the bone and needed five stitches in the cheek.

Next Game Rock Island will try to stay undefeated as they welcome the Starch makers of Decatur to town.
