Joe LittleTwig. Born 1893 in Hogansberg, New York. Joe first played football at Catarague Indian School and then at Carlisle College in Pennsylvania.  In 1917, Joe enlisted in the army and served overseas. After the war he joined the Oorang Indians; Jim Thorpe's All Indian Football team at LaRue and appeared in Canton on occasion with the team. He then played with Thorpe in 1924 and 1925 for the Rock Island Independents. In 1926, Joe played with the Akron Indians and the Canton Bulldogs. Joe retired from football in 1927 and joined the Canton police force where he served as a patrolman on motorcycle duty. In 1929, he married Gertrude Hale where Jim Thorpe stood up as his best man. Joe worked for the police force until 1931. In 1935, Joe divorced his first wife and married Winifred. He and Winifred had two daughters Norma Jean and JoAnn. On March 6, 1939 Joe was tragically killed when his automobile struck a tree in Canton at the bottom of Sponseller hill on Waynesberg Road.   Joe Little Twig Joins Canton Police Force in 1930
